2nd Annual end of summer fund raiser beer garden Sept 15, 2018

Ice rentals available starting early Oct, 2018

Attn: Local Business Owners

On September 15, 2018 a group of volunteers will be hosting the second annual end of summer fundraiser beer garden at Chester Curling Club with all profits being shared between Elena Demont and Church Memorial Park. The recipient of the proceeds from the 50/50 draw will be announced at a later date. Our plans are to continue this as an annual event and share profits with local people that are going through costly medical treatments or recovering from a costly hardship in their lives. Church Memorial Park will also be continuing an annual bursary for a deserving student from Forest Heights School.

We are reaching out to local business owners to purchase books of ten admission tickets to the beer garden, our thoughts are that the business owners could give the tickets to their employees, family members or use as promotional gifts for their customers. Each book of ten tickets will cost $150.00. Any business that buys tickets will be included in our advertisement.

Thank You for your support

Elena’s continuing pursuit to win her battle with cancer.

Elena 2018On August 17, 2017, at 15 months old, Elena was diagnosed with a large brain tumour. On August 18th she had her first surgery. She was the absolute bravest little girl. Her first resection was 16 hours long, they weren’t able to get all of the tumour, and eventually they discovered her tumour was a pilocytic astrocytoma. This is a rare tumour, but more rare in her age group. She recovered so well, and was discharged 7 days after her surgery.

Her first brain tumour clinic was in November, they discovered her brain tumour had grown back to almost the same size as initially. She had her second resection on December 8th, 2017. It was 12 hours, and again, she was so incredibly brave. Her big sister Kate was incredible as well. Kate came to see Elena in PICU every single day, lying in bed with Elena to keep her calm and watch videos with her. The best big sister . They weren’t able to get all of her tumour again, but she recovered very well, and went home 6 days after surgery.

In January Elena had a fall and bumped her head, after a couple trips to the IWK emergency department in the next few days, we learned Elena needed a VP shunt to drain fluid from her brain.

In March of 2018 Elena had her 3rd brain tumour clinic, and we found out that her tumour was continuing to grow. It is now inoperable due to its location. The decision was made that day to start chemotherapy for the next 70 weeks. She had surgery the next week to have a port-o-cath inserted so she didn’t have to endure IV’s at every visit. Elena has tolerated this very well, and Kate comes with us often to cheer on her little sister.

We are so very lucky to have the supportive community we have, as well as our amazing family, and friends who are like family at this point. Elena’s journey has been made considerably easier because of everyone’s support, for which we cannot thank you all enough for.

Remember When?

In 2008 the land at the East side of the parking lot housed a Scout Hall and Tea Room, shown below.  These two buildings were used by numerous community groups and organizations for many many years.
